Leaf and Vine Fire poker Organic themed Fire poker Functional Art
from $70.00
Individually Hand forged in the hills of rural Appalachia, these start out as a long bar of 3/8" thick steel. First the leaf finial is forged on one end of the bar, I then "draw out" or lengthen the section of material that will become the "vine". I then use a chisel to make veins in the leaf , the next step is to forge a loop for the handle. At the vise the vine is twisted around the pokers shaft to create the handle (seen in video). The poker end is forged out long, folded and forge welded onto itself to create the fire pokers tip and hook , able to push and pull logs, lift Dutch oven lids etc. Choose your desired length and color when checking out under variations . After forging the fire poker, if a traditional blackened finish is desired I remove any Loose forge scale and coat with paste wax at a low heat. If a silver finish is desired I remove all of the forge scale to reveal the shiny bare metal below (this takes considerably More time)After hot stamping my touch mark I apply several coats of paste wax at a very low heat to protect the finish and help prevent rust. The length options for this poker make it perfect for an indoor fireplace, wood burning stove, or outdoor campfire. ***while shipping is free to buyers, it’s costing me 25-30$ to ship pokers due to new shipping rates***I also make fire pokers to order where you pick your length, style etc. Feel free to message me with any questions. Iron is the Traditional 6 year wedding anniversary gift, Steel is the 11th year. The words Iron and Steel are almost always used interchangeably in Blacksmithing due to the availability of materials Items that would have been made from Wrought Iron, are now made from mild low carbon steel, the closest we as modern smiths can find readily available.
