Feather Hook Forged to Finish Functional Art

$39.99
These organic looking feather hooks are forged from angle iron that is carefully flattened at the anvil while leaving the center ridge intact to become the feathers quill. After flattening the angle iron the rough shape of the feather is hot cut with chisels, after cleaning up any rough edges the quill is forged into what will become the hook. Using various chisels the feather texture is added over many heats this is the tedious part but also what makes the feathers look so lifelike. Once the texturing is done I add my touch mark stamp and shape the hook. I then remove the forge scale, drill mounting holes for screws and clear coat the hooks to give a nice looking long lasting finish that also helps prevent rust. The over all length of the hooks are roughly 8-9 inches. Being a hand forged item no two will be identical each one will be unique, the pictures are examples of the feather hooks I forge, you may receive one of those pictured, if not it will be very close. Iron is the Traditional 6 year wedding anniversary gift, Steel is the 11th year. The words Iron and Steel are almost always used interchangeably in Blacksmithing due to the availability of materials Items that would have been made from Wrought Iron, are now made from mild low carbon steel, the closest we as modern smiths can find readily available.
